Poland..... The spectacular views of Morksie Oko.
Poland, is part of central Europe
and holds over 38.5million people. Poland’s capital city is Warsaw and some
other known cities are Kraków, Gdańsk, and Poznań. This places give Poland a
bit of everything. Kraków and Gdańsk being the historical cities while Warsaw
has the energetic and liveliness lifestyle. Outside this beautiful cities
Poland is covered with hills, mountains, rivers and lakes and ample of green
that provides you with each breath that you will you will inhale fresh air.
There are a lot of both
historical and natural places to visit in Poland. My husband and I visited
Poland for our honeymoon and went places in the south of Poland like; Morskie
Oko, Zakopane, Kasprowy Wierch and Kraków.
Upon arriving to Krakow we drove to Zakopane and stayed at an amazing B &B called Willa Rajka. The house is amazing all built with raw wood. All rooms are decorated in a very nice rustic way and are very clean. Most rooms have balconies which offer mountain views. Breakfast had a great choice. Each morning, apart from the buffet breakfast, one of the owner's would cook something different for us which was also a nice touch. The location of this place is great as it is close to most things. It was around a 15 minutes walk to the Krupówki Street ( shopping street). Apart from that the owners are very friendly, one of them could speak English and understand it well.

The first place we visited was Morskie Oko, which is located border line with Slovakia. Morskie Oko is roughly 2.5 hours’ drive away from Krakow. The
term ‘Morskie Oko means the eye of the sea.
This lake forms part of the Tatra Mountains (which runs between Slovakia
and Poland) and is the fourth deepest lake in the Tatra Mountains. Surrounding the lake are high beautiful
mountains, the highest peak is Rysy which is around 2,499m above the surface.
Morskie Oko Lake |
When you arrive to Morskie-Oko parking area (Palenica Białczańska), you have a remaining 8KM. There are two options on how to cover these remaining 8KM. You can either walk uphill (which roughly takes 2.5hours) or else to take a horse carriage ride. We choose the horse ride which lasted around 35mins going up. After the carriage ride you have another 10minute walk until you arrive to the Morskie Oko lake. Once you arrive to the lake you will see a spectacular, crystal clear lake view, with water streams coming down from the mountains. Apart from visiting the lake you can also walk around this big lake. We started walking around and saw a waterfall. We continued walking around the lake and saw what looked like a staircase made out of stone which was very narrow, windy and steep.
The uneven stair way |
We decided to give it a go to see where it takes us. It was extremely tiring and not the safest (unfortunately we saw two woman falling over) but as soon as you get to the top you see this amazing view of Morskie Oko beneath you.
The cross between Czamy Staw and Morskie Oko |
Apart from this surprising view as soon as we walked further in we saw another lake, smaller than Morskie Oko. It is called Czamy Staw. After the long uphill climb it was quite hot. So i decided to try out the water with my feet. But my ow my it was freezing cold.

Some suggestions:
- Do not go in the peak seasons July/August, this is a very well known place by tourists and it can get crowded specially near Morskie Oko lake. Do take alternative routes when hiking and do not stay on the main route to avoid people when crowded.
- From November to April the lake is frozen and has a different scenario to the one in summer. I winter lakes are frozen and mountains are covered in white where as in Summer the lake is crystal clear and the mountains are green.
- I do suggest you take a proper trekking shoes if you plan on walking. There is a lot of uneven and slipper grounds.
