Kasprowy Wierch mountain in Poland

One of the most popular skiing resort in winter and one of the most famous mountains you can enjoy a walk on during summer, is Kasprowy Wierch. This mountain is located in the south of Poland and splits Slovakia and Poland. This mountain has an altitude of 1,987m.

  • Fun fact: Weather permitting one can easily cross the borders from Poland to Slovakia on-top of the mountains.
This resort had become so famous that in the early 90s that back in 1936 a cable card was built. It being built so early in the 90s make it one of the oldest in Europe. In 2007 it was closed for a while to modernize it. The cable car is split onto two stops and one has to change cars to reach the peek. The first stop is made at Myślenickie Turnie which is at an altitude of 1325m. It roughly takes 15 minutes to get from the bottom to the summit of the mountain. Through the whole cable-car ride you are provided with unlimited picturesque views, from forest trees, to lakes, simply stunning.

The cable car is located on top of Zakopane in Kuznice.  which is a short 20 minute ride by bus from Zakopane center. P.S if you are driving the road (where the parking lot is, is usually closed so you need to walk it, it is only open for members and public transport and taxis). We were in Zakopane during the month of July and the weather was extremely hot, you could just wear a sleeveless top and shorts. The drawback of visiting during peak seasons, is that you should expect a lot of people queuing for the tickets. We spent 2 hours queuing up in the hot weather waiting to purchase our cable car tickets (it was around 28oC).
  • TIP: Do buy your tickets before hand. You can purchase online form here. A normal one way ticket would cost Eur12.50 (50PLN) whereas with a return trip it costs Eur 15.50 (65PLN)
  • Fun fact: If you really want to be adventures you can also beat the queue easily by walking to the summit.

Since the mountain is set at such a high altitude, as soon as you set foot of the cable car you will notice a drop in temperature. You might also want to take a light rain coat with you, since you are at such an altitude we did encounter some rain..  There are a lot of different hiking trails that end, start or pass through Kasprowy Wiech. on top of the mountain. All offering amazing views.

At the top of Kasprowy Wierch there is a a restaurant which you can enjoy a hot drink or refreshing drink at. It also offers a small buffet where you pay depending on the weigth of you food in plate

In winter the mountain turns out completely different, where it is covered in snow and offers a different panoramic view. The resort has two different pistes: Gasienicowa and Goryczkowa.
